THE JOKER & THE BOSS - PAHANG MB WAN ROSDY AS GOOD AS CHASES AWAY VOTERS - EVEN AS MAT HASAN PLEADS FOR 'CRUCIAL' SUPPORT

KUALA LUMPUR (Politics Now!) - As his boss Mohamad Hasan pleads for votes on the grounds that a victory in Pelangai was crucial to get Umno up and running, Pahang MB Wan Rosdy cheesed off supporters by calling their children 'nuisances' and telling them not to return home if they weren't going to vote for Umno-BN!

"Our children who live out of state, if they are not with us, then you should just ask them to stay (where they are).

"Just stay in Kolumpo (Kuala Lumpur). Mengacau je (you’re being a nuisance). Let us handle our own yard," Malaysiakini reported Wan Rosdy as telling a crowd of some 300 people in Pahang last night.

Realizing his bungle later on, Wan Rosdy said he was 'only joking'.

"The part where I said they should not come back if they do not support us was only a joke. Because some of the audience were sleepy, I wanted to wake them up.

"Don't take it too seriously."

Winning back Malay hearts with humility or arrogance?

Meanwhile, Mohamad Hasan the Umno deputy president, who was also at the same event, showed his famous tact and humble streak.

Mat Hasan, as the Umno No. 2 is usually called, acknowledged that Umno was still in the doldrums, and not yet able to win back the hearts and minds of Malay voters.

“Make this by-election our resurgence. We cannot afford to be comfortable, the machinery has to work hard to win because we are not strong yet having ‘drowned’ in GE15," Mat Hasan was quoted as saying by Bernama..

“Although GE16 is still a long way, this (Pelangai by-election) serves as a start for us to prepare for the real battle. Still, the victory cannot be used to gauge our ability and strength because we are still in the phase of ensuring the survival of the party.

The Pelangai by-election is held following the death of Umno assemblyman Johari Harun in a plane crash in Shah Alam, Selangor last month.

It will be a three-cornered fight between Umno's Amizar Abu Adam, Kasim Samat of PAS and an Independent candidate Haslihelmy DM Zulhasni.

Polling for the by-election is on October 7.

‘Which part of Pahang is un-Islamic?’

Earlier in his speech, Wan Rosdy slammed PAS for suggesting Pahang was not as 'Islamic' as the 4 states it controls - Kelantan, Kedah, Terengganu and Perlis.

On the contrary, Wan Rosdy claimed Pahang was even more Islamic than PAS-led states.

This was evident from achievements and initiatives by the state government, including having an Islamic university and 24 tahfiz schools in the state, he pointed out.

Wan Rosdy said they also send students to Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt for Islamic studies.

Pahang had also enacted an anti-apostasy law, he added.

"So which part (about Pahang) is unIslamic? I think Pahang is even more Islam than states that are under their (PAS) control," Malaysiakini reported the Pahang MB as saying.
