MALAYSIA ON AUTO-PILOT - NOT A SINGLE OPPOSITION MP IN PARLIAMENT - AS ANWAR PLAYS 'VOICE OF GAZA' - PN-PAS RUSH OFF TO ATTEND PROTEST RALLY OVER LOCAL SHARIAH LAW - CAN MALAYSIANS EAT RACE & RELIGION, NO NEED FOR BREAD & BUTTER?

KUALA LUMPUR (Politics Now!) - Malaysia's Parliament was thrown again into chaos, with not a single opposition MP in sight.

It is yet another sign the country is on auto-pilot, with race and religion issues overtaking leadership and governance - pushing the economy into greater uncertainty at a time when its currency, the ringgit, is already in crisis.

"We have Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim trying to be the 'voice of Gaza' and the opposition bench also trying to show they are even more Muslim by focusing on the local Shariah law," a political analyst told Politics Now!

"This has got to stop. And Anwar has to show the way and lead by example instead of creating so much negative competition that the entire nation is left leaderless and directionless. We cannot eat race and religion, we need bread and butter and the sooner Anwar stops the drama, the better off the country will be."

He was referring to news that all the opposition MPs had left to attend a protest rally outside the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya, where the Federal Court is hearing a constitutional challenge to certain sections of the Kelantan Shariah Criminal Code.

Only one opposition MP, Ahmad Saad from Pokok Sena, turned up to pose questions to Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa before vanishing again.

ANWAR & MASSIVE  ENTOURAGE

Obviously, the government MPs who were present rushed to make hay while the sun shone.

Mohd Isam Mohd Isa, the Umno MP for Tampin slammed the opposition for being absent.

"It is not that 'many' of them are absent, but all of them are absent. This is the opposition's behaviour," said Islam.

Jimmy Puah Wee Tse the Pakatan Harapan MP for Tebrau, when posing a question to the Finance Ministry, too could not resist gloating.

"We came to Parliament just to find out that the opposition was not here. Luckily, the minister is here," NST reported Puah as saying.

But where was Anwar?
